Selected For Audit? Here Is How To Complete The Process
PMP applicants are randomly selected for audits. Selected candidates will be asked to provide proof of their education, contact hours and work experience claimed during the application process. This is in a bid to protect the integrity of the certification and to make sure only qualified candidates apply for and sit for the exam.
In the event that you are selected for an audit, there is no reason to panic provided all the information you entered during your application process are factual and can be proven to the audit board of the Project Management Institute (PMI).
These are the events leading to an audit and how to navigate the process:
1. Apply and submit your application
Complete your application and review to ensure all the information you provided is correct and can be proven to the audit committee should your application be selected.
The key to coming out successful in the application process is to ONLY submit factual information when filling out your PMP application. Ensure you can prove your:
- education with certificates or transcripts
- domain education (contact hours) with a Certificate of Completion from a PMP education provider recognized by the PMI
- Domain work experience with signed references from present or former colleagues, supervisors, or managers.
Submit the application after all processes have been completed and wait for a decision.
2. The application is selected for an audit
If your application is selected for audit, you will get an email stating this, you will be asked to log in to your PMI account to download the audit materials and the instructions.
3. Compile your information
Gather the evidence to prove your education(a copy of certificate and/or transcripts) and Domain education (a copy of Certificate of Completion from the education provider you chose).
Compile a list of colleagues, supervisors, and/or managers that are willing to attest to your experience.
4. Send the reference forms to people you worked together
To prove your work experience you will need to send the downloaded reference form with instruction to your references through email or postal mail (email is faster). They will fill out the forms according to instructions, envelop the completed forms, sign across the seal and send them back to you in the mail. Do not open any of the reference forms when you receive them. They are to be sent out to the PMI audit division as received.
5. Compile and send your package to PMI
Upon receiving the signed, sealed reference form(s) from your references, you will need to enclose all of them in a single envelope and send by postal mail to:
PMI Attn.:
Certification Audit
14 Campus Boulevard.
Newton Square, PA 19073-3299
USA
6. Wait for a review and decision
When the PMI receives your mail, it will be processed within 5-7 Business days. Fingers crossed, you will be sent an email about the completion of the audit process and given the go-ahead to pay if you passed the audit.
