Great Resources To Use As Study Materials For The PMP Certification
One of the main reasons why aspirants fail the PMP exam is because they do not do their homework before attempting the examination. The PMP examination is an incredibly difficult examination. There are seasoned project managers that have failed on multiple attempts. You will significantly increase your chances of passing the examination if you get great study materials.
1. The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK) Guide – 6th Edition
The Project Management Body of Knowledge( PMBoK) guide is the official guide from the PMI. It contains a guide on PMI suggested approach to project management. It is put together through a joint effort by project managers across different industries, in different countries with years of experience. It is also supported by research and based on practical real-life experiences.
By reading the PMBoK guide at least once while preparing for the PMP certification, you will have an understanding of what the standard and expectations are from the PMI’s perspective. People often get overconfident and they get a rude awakening when they realize their day to day experience was not enough to pass the test.
2. Joseph Phillips Udemy Course (PMP Exam Prep Seminar – PMBoK Guide 6th Edition)
This is an extremely valuable resource. This was the first resource I used while preparing for my test. I know a few people have used it and I have also recommended it to some because the course is very good.
It is a video course that details the PMP examination course content. Joseph provides exercises throughout the course for you to further cement your understanding of several aspects of the course content. There are practice tests with solutions at the end of each chapter. This course also comes with 400 free questions at the end of the course.
You can use the course to satisfy your 35 Contact Hours project management education requirement.
3. Rita Mulcahy’s PMP Exam Prep – 9th Edition
This is a very comprehensive book that provides a straightforward approach to the complex PMBoK guide. It goes into detail in all topics, process groups, and knowledge areas with exercises to aid your understanding of the concepts. It also has exercises throughout the book. There are also standard practice tests that focus on the essential concepts at the end of each chapter with well-explained solutions. The book gives several tricks to the trade and shares what you really need to know to pass the PMP exam.
4. Andy Crowe’s The PMP Exam – 6th Edition – How to pass on your first try
I love this material because the design was very well done. It is very easy to read and understand. Chris provided tips and tricks throughout the book, plus exercises at the end of each chapter and 200 questions at the end of the book. Answers to the questions and explanations are also provided.
5. Flashcards
Another material I will recommend is creating Flashcards as you go through the study materials. I am a fan of doing this by myself because by writing the terms and definitions down by myself, I see it as part of my study and I am able to master a lot of the definitions this way.
You can buy ready-made flashcards from course providers or from Amazon if you think my suggestion will not be time friendly to you or laborious for you.
6. Inputs, Tools & Techniques and Outputs (ITTO) Games
One thing I cannot stress enough is the fact that understanding the flow of the ITTOs. It is possible to understand this flow by going through the study materials and understanding it. Your work will however be easier if you take some time out of your day to pay the games daily till you take the test.
I strongly recommend this iOS-based ITTO game designed by Melchior’s team, NEVTops LLC.
7. Braindumps
Your testing experience will be easier by writing Formulas and the Process Groups/Knowledge Areas that contain the 49 processes down just before your test. You should be able to do this between 10-15 minutes with practice.
Doing this makes it easier to more easily handle calculation based questions. It will also make it easy to answer some ITTO related questions for some processes.
